This hotel is right out of town, but is a level walk into Canterbury itself, which is a fabulous city - loads and loads of bars and restaurants, quirky little shops as well as the chainstores, loads of students but not a threatening atmosphere at all. If I went again, I would stay in a hotel in the middle of the city. The Victoria is rather 'tired', and the bar was pretty lacklustre and had plastic button-back armchairs. Our room was quite small, and as ever with our luck, poked at the back end of the hotel - although the front of the hotel looks out on a main road, so no loss there. There was a small clean bathroom but no bath. Just enough room to edge round the double bed. It is about a 15 minute walk to the city, through a park, but did not feel unsafe at all. Would recommend Canterbury - but stay in the city centre!

My 1st room was tiny & hot. The plumbing needed attention as the cistern filled up continually causing noise throughout the night. I moved! The 2nd room was slightly larger however there was still plumbing problems with the toilet and the rain came in through the air vent in the bathroom causing puddles on the bathroom floor. The reception staff were extremely friendly, proffesional and helpful. The dinning room staff took a considerable amount of time to notice us and even longer to serve us. The food was very acceptable and well cooked.
