The Bull - Gerrards Cross, United Kingdom
The Bull details:
Built along one of the great coaching roads between London and Oxford, this hotel, dating back to 1688, has undergone significant improvements while still reflecting its long established historic heritage.
The hotel boasts a long connection with the tales of highwaymen and famous stagecoaches. Overlooking the picturesque village common at Gerrards Cross, the main roads are readily accessible. Heathrow and central London are within easy reach and the hotel is also a mile from the mainline train station. The central situation is ideal for Legoland, Windsor Castle, Hampton Court, Woburn Abbey and Safari Park, Blenheim Palace, the racing at Ascot and Kempton Park.
Many of the tastefully decorated rooms overlook the village common or the gardens. In addition there are four-poster bedrooms for that special occasion, state-of-the-art bedrooms for the discerning businessman and luxurious suites with sitting rooms. The hotel also includes a conservatory lounge and a Jack Shrimptons bar.
Refurbishment work is still continuing with Beeches Restaurant just opened, and additional bedrooms and meeting rooms in progress. This work is taking place away from the main hotel and is due to be completed in early summer.
The hotel has several weddings and functions booked over weekends throughout the year, with either a disco or live music until 01:00. Please contact the hotel for further information.
For business guests, the charming surroundings of the hotel conceal a modern venue with remarkably flexible facilities, adapting easily to any event from a director's dinner to a training seminar, a large conference to a product launch. There are 9 meeting and reception rooms, with extra syndicate rooms available, offering capacities from 2 to 200 delegates. Most rooms offer natural daylight, full AV equipment and a professional on-site conference team to assist you. We can also cater for dinner dances for up to 160 people and offer tailored menus for that special occasion.

Stayed here for one night in early July, 2008 with a tour group.
A lovely hotel in a lovely location with lovely staff!
The rooms were nice with excellent facilities (good tv, internet, etc) - bathroom was a good size, well stocked and clean with a great shower.
Reception and bar staff were very friendly and nice to deal with.
Negatives - bar was a little pricey and hotel was VERY warm.
Would highly recommend.

I stayed at the Bull as part of a corporate meeting. It was a decent hotel, but showed its age. Getting from point A to point B in the hotel is like finding your way through a maze, I assume it has grown over the years via several disjointed expansions.
My room was quite large for a European hotel, but the furnishings were dated (and not in the charming way).
I spent hours working with the front desk and with the maintenance staff trying to find a room with working internet, and eventually gave up. This made keeping in touch with my kids back in Canada very frustrating, as we generally chat via webcam. Also, I and several people in my group had constant trouble with keys that stopped working, which required complete reprogramming of our door by maintenance staff.
Overall, I think that this would be a great hotel for weddings, and other events that can take advantage of the nicely maintained courtyard, quaint patio, and spacious common spaces. However for business travel, the quaintness was lost on me and the maintenance issues just made the trip frustrating for me. I won't personally be staying there again.
