Hotel sadly lost its charm and friendliness. Reception staff book you in and move you on. House keeping staff and evening waiters very friendly always took time to say hello, whereas management walked past you. Breakfast more 3 star than 4 star plastic tongs in the fruit bowls to serve . It took over 30 mins for someone to ask if we wanted tea and coffee and dont expect to be shown to your table by the maitre d' he just points to it. There was not enough management at meal times to show you to your table, the waiting staff had to show you as well as serve. The hotel decor is being modernised but not in character with the hotel which is a shame too mismatched.Good points to note about the hotel are evening meals were of a very good standard and well presented. The premium rooms have lovely views as did the restaurant and lounge. Overall nice hotel but spoiling it with new decor not the 4 star service i experianced last year, probably wont return for a few years see how it goes.

Check in / front desk
6.0
Excellent in every area except the painting/decorating in the rooms and around the windows etc. Bit scruffy in some rooms, we asked to be moved from our first room as it was not up to standard. The next room was much better but still tatty around the window sills etc. Those things aside i thought evrything else was very good, food and facilities etc were very good. Nice little gym and very good swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. The staff were very good, particularly Kirsty (one of the Duty Managers) who dealt with our room problem in a very friendly and extremely efficient manner.
