Vidella Hotel - Blackpool, United Kingdom     

Excellent Hotel - could not fault it Friendly staff,clean rooms,breakfast was great and not to early or late, there was five of us in one room for one night and we had plenty of room. Although we never used the bar it looked really nice and they have entertainment on and a great cocktail menu. I would reckamend ths hotel to anyone, I would like to send a Big Thank You to the host, he was amazing and really accomadating for us,we really enjoyed are stay - and will no doubt be back again.

We booked the Vidella after finding it online. We were impressed by the fact that it was voted ''hotel of the year 2005/06, the description and pictures of the rooms, bar etc. Upon arriving at the hotel, we were greeted with a smile by a member of staff and were checked in with the minimum of fuss however, it soon became apparent that the last 2-3 years since winning the ''award'' had taken thier toll. The decor was very tatty and old fashioned. The carpeting throughout the hotel was very grubby and even sticky in some areas. Unfortunately things did not improve once we got into our room. As we are a family of 5, we had booked a ''family'' room, but were a bit disappointed to find that we were quite cramped (the pic on the web site gives the impression of space???) and there was not enough storage for our clothes. The en-suite was very small and very outdated. Family entertainment was non existent apart from a pool table, piano and board games in the bar area. One plus was the food at breakfast time. It was very well cooked and plentiful. The choice of drinks and cereals was very good and it was all served very efficiently and curtiously by the manager John. Nothing was too much trouble for John and he always had a smile on his face. At the end of the day, The Vidella Hotel is not a ''Hotel'', it is a low cost B&B which would be more likened to working mans guest house. If the owners want to stand out from the thousands of other places to stay in Blackpool, I would strongly advise a complete overhaul. If the Vidella was subject to a refit, I would have no hestation in booking a room again (even if they are a bit cramped) and would even pay extra but, in it's present condition I would definately look elsewhere. The owners desperatly need to reinvest to turn this establishment around. If they do so, they will have a hotel that will be in demand as there is no other hotel of a similar size in the immediate area that would be able to compete. Overall, I would give (out of 10) 8 for value, 3 for decor, 8 for the food (breakfast only), 6 for hospitality and 1 for entertainment. R Christie, Dundee Scotland
