Banbury- The Bowling Green Hotel & Restaurant - - surprisingly good When you arrive at this 'hote'l you will not be impressed - the outside looks awfull , I arrived early and the owners close up for a couple of hours in the afternnon so I couldn't get in so I spent an hour trying to find somewhere else to stay but couldn't and I'm glad I didn't. The owners are spending every penny and minute they have concentrating on updrading the inside and they are doing a great job, the rooms are lovely , spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The food is all home cooked and very good quality - nothing too elaborate but good stuff. The full english breakfast is good , just a pity the tea is from a machine rather than in a pot . The grounds outside are small but lovely with a decked area and tables It is very close to the M40 so the noise from the motorway is ever present, I was glad it was cool when I stayed because if I had needed to open the windows I wouldn't have got much sleep as no air con in rooms. The double glazing is very well fitted. I'm a very light sleeper but I didn't hear a thing and got a rare good nights sleep. Don't judge this by hotel standards- it's really just a very good pub with good rooms and lovely very hard working staff/owners . Good value for money compared to other places in Banbury.
