Having got lost called receptionist who kept calm and friendly and eventually got me to hotel! All staff couldn't be more helpful but professional. Furnishings spotlessly clean, tasteful and comfortable. Food superb. We were a group of 5 ladies coming from different parts of the country - we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay and plan to revisit in the spring/summer to take advantage of outdoor pool and gardens. Stunning location.

We have just returned from a one night stay at Deans Place Hotel, Alfriston. We drove down to the South Downs on the spur of the moment as we both had a day off work and the weather forecast was good (for February). We picked Alfriston as our destination because it is a good walking area and it looked as though there were a number of pubs and hotels in the area. We chose Deans Place because we liked the look of the the place from the road and we could drive in to the car park (the main road through Alfriston is very narrow and we could not see car parks for the pubs in the centre of the village). We were offered a small double room at preferential rates (?80 for b&b or ?100 for b&b plus dinner). We chose the dinner option as it was good value for money (the menu price of the 3 course dinner was ?29.95 pp). Our room turned out to be a family suite (a double room and a small single room sharing a bathroom). The rooms were clean and comfortable with flat screen TVs and DVD players in both. Also tea and coffee facilities in both rooms. We didn't have a view from our room (just an inner courtyard) but that didn't matter for just one night). The staff were extremely attentive (including reception, bar and restaurant staff). Dinner was excellent. Breakfast was good - selection and service was excellent. Because the hotel was busy the hot breakfast was served buffet-style, however you could ask for your eggs to be freshly prepared (and my poached egg was cooked to perfection). All in all we thought our spontaneous short-break was excellent value for money.
