Royal Hotel - Bath, United Kingdom 

Was surprised to see the hotel a 10 second walk from the Bath Spa station, so had some misgivings about the location. Was very much impressed from the moment I entered - received a very warm welcome from the reception (and nothing but friendliness after - even the cleaning ladies welcomed me to the hotel). Room was a treat - old-school styled with special touches like slippers and the required choccie-on-pillow. My fears about train noise were unfounded, since I slept like a baby (very quiet and very comfortable). My room had a good view and all amenities in the room were excellent - bath/shower, full toiletries, bottled water, kettle/biscuits/range of teas & coffees. Dinner was good too and breakfast delicious. But, the one thing that really shone at the Royal Hotel was the service, friendliness and professionalism of the staff. Kudos to the reception team and management for making my night so pleasant with the all the small attention-to-details and personal touches. I will highly recommend this hotel to family and friends.

I recently arranged a weekend away to celebrate our 50th birthdays, for 14 of us. I found the communication with the hotel excellent, very prompt to answer queries by email or phone. I was anxious about the standard of the hotel, but we had a great stay, with no complaints. One small problem (the towels had not returned from the laundry on time) was sorted out and the hotel apologised for the trouble caused, although they did arrive later. The food was excellent, with a great choice, we had breakfast and evening meals on both days, with a lovely table set for the group. The hotel arranged passes to the Thermae Spa, which was excellent, and a short walk from the hotel. There has been a lot of negative feedback about this hotel, but don't let this put you off, we had a great stay and would recommend it and go again.
