Thistle Aberdeen Altens - Aberdeen, United Kingdom 

I loved my 12-day stay at the Thistle. My previous stays in Aberdeen were the Hilton Treetops, the Royal Hotel and the Brentwood Hotel. Thistle Altens is by far the best. Rooms were recently refurbished in different, very elegant, styles. The only downsides are the location - convenient when working in the Altens industrial estate, but far from the city center - and the limited choice at the restaurant. Excellent, very high quality food, but not that many different items available on the menu.

The hotel is a fairly good quality and I believe they are upgrading many rooms. Ours was still original but was comfortable and very clean. We were wrongly given a standard double room but should've been a superior 2x double beds but soon rectified when I returned to Reception. Simple mistake I think. The bathroom was adequate with a bath and a good strong shower but it could be doing with upgrading however it was a lot better than many I have been in. Hotel itself was ok and staff were friendly and helpful. We skipped breakfast which I felt was a bit steep at ?14 each. Lots of local options and even dare I say a Burger King just over the main road. Aberdeen however has lots of alternatives. Best to have a car for this hotel as it is a good 5 mins into city centre and the taxi drivers will fleece you if they get a chance. Make sure you agree a price. Some of the best fish and chips in Scotland are at Ashvale Restuarant on great Western Road,just off the top of Union Street and you can sit in or takeaway. Fish the size of Whales also on the menu. super chips also. Wonderful! We booked on a hotel website and paid ever so little (about a quarter of the list price) so its definately worth shopping around for a decent deal. Kick "Rip off "prices into touch.
