While it is true that the setting of the Chateau Le Fort in the walls of a medieval fort is an unusual treat for history lovers like us, we felt that our two day stay was compromised by inattentive service by the senior staff and sloppy housekeeping. I cannot recommend this hotel. When we arrived at the hotel at 11 AM on a Saturday, we were informed that the dining room was fully booked for the evening. it was apparently the evening before Fathers Day. We were given a list of about 8 restaurants in Sedan, at least two of which we could not reach without a car (we were travelling by train and did not have a car). The woman at the desk did not offer to make reservations for us and did not mention that they might be needed. That evening at an early hour we went to each of the 5 or 6 restaurants within walking distance of the hotel and were unable to get a table at any of them, even though we were willing to wait until 10PM . We couldn't even get a pizza. Our room on the 6th floor was reached via a set of very dimly lit stairs and then the room itself had two interior flights of stairs. No one offered to help us with our bags. We are fit people but I thought we should have been warned that getting to and from our room would involve three flights of stairs. To make matters worse, just outside the door to our room were about a dozen bags of dirty linens which were never moved during our stay. I am not sure what other hotel options exist in Sedan (I suspect not many) but I would not recommend the Hotel Chateau Le Fort. Better to stay in Reims about 45 minutes away. By the way, of my many reviews on Trip Advisor, this is one of the very few negative ones. Given the positive reviews for this hotel, I had expected better.

Absolute astonishing location. Rooms are inside the old walls of the fort which gives a special sensation. Great service, certainly in the restaurant. Excellent wines. The food on the menu’s were not "WOW" but certainly above average. Overall a unique experience.
