Grande Real Villa Italia address: Rua Frei Nicolau De Oliveira,100, Cascais, 2750-319

Grande Real Villa Italia details: Idyllically located overlooking the sea, the Grande Real Villa Itália Hotel & Spa, is the most recent (March 2007) 5-star hotel in Cascais.

This luxury hotel is based in the former residence of King Humberto II of Italy and represents an important investment for the Portugal Real Hotels group in a high quality product aimed at the events, incentives, golf, leisure and wellness markets.

The concept of this hotel is inspired on the “classical revisited”. The style is classical but also has a contemporary and attractive feel, fitting in well with current tastes.

With regard to the interiors, the Graça Viterbo Studios has used wide windows to create a direct link to the surroundings (sea and gardens). Outside public spaces also flow directly from inner areas.

Comfort is obvious throughout and the base materials are also classical, such as local marble and Venetian mosaic for paving and toilets, which are luxurious with an Italian finish.

Ceilings are ornate and decorations blend perfectly. The same materials are used throughout the hotel. Traditional and modern Portuguese tiling can also be seen in different forms.

I recently had the pleasure of staying in this hotel on business for 3 nights. Rooms were very large and in perfect condition, with lovely extra large bathrooms. I had an Executive Seaview room which has a good size balcony and views over the pool and sea - great view. The food was exceptional. There is a large choice for breakfast including hot and cold options. Also had dinner in the hotel restaurant which was excellent - one of the best meals we had. The service was second to none, I never had to ask twice for anything and there was always a smile along with the service. I will will definitely be returning soon!

I recently had the good fortune to stay in this nice hotel on business for 4 nights. Rooms were in perfect condition, very well appointed and last but not least very large. No doubt some of the best around in Europe and certainly exceeding my expectations. So onto the downsides. I had a problem with maintenance being carried out somewhere in the hotel, which was causing a thudding noise in my room for a couple of hours on the second day during the afternoon. Just happened to coincide with an unrelated headache I was suffering. Complaint was handled in a very unsatisfactory way by front desk and phone staff, which I was more unhappy about than the noise itself. Next, the wait times for bar terrace service was far to long on my first day (and it was not busy at all) but fine on subsequent days, so some inconsistencies in service. And last but not least, I also think that hotels of this caliber should invest in having a "barista" as part of the team to ensure decent coffee is available. Food was excellent as was the general ambiance. Very nice breakfast (apart from coffee) with a fine selection of fare. Large well kept main pool and a fantastic looking spa set up. Special touch to offer sunscreen by the pool (shame they were empty on all the days I went). Excellent location with a short stroll into the lovely town center. I would certainly recommend this hotel and hope to return one day.
