Hotel Sao Jose - Porto, Portugal 

Nice hotel, helpful but not very knowledgeable staff. I asked about Currency exchange on Saturday morning and was told everything is likely to be closed. I went down to Tourist Information and they told me the same. Found an exchange and the cashier told me that the exchange in Bento Train station is open on Saturday until 19:00 and Sunday until 18:00! Hotel is near Main shopping road, Catarina, but everything will be shut by 11:00 at night so if you are getting there at night make sure you eat before arriving at your hotel. Hotel rooms are clean and spacious and maid will clean the room, replace towels and make the bed daily. Breakfast is basic, with Tea/Coffee, slabs of cake, cereals(cornflakes/branflakes), Milk, bread rolls, bread slices (toaster for toast), yoghurt and fruit. Getting to the river(Ribeira) is a bit of a walk. 20 to 30 mins mostly downhill. Enjoy your trip to Porto.

We stayed at this hotel in November and because we liked it so much we went back there in December when we were back in Porto. It represented great value for money and has an ideal situation, minutes away from the main shoppping area so it is great for restaurants etc. It is also very close to the subway from the airport. The staff very very accomodating and breakfast was more than adequate. All in all a great little find and we would happily stay there again. It is a very good middle of the road hotel and better than many.
