Grand Hotel De Paris - Paris, France     

This hotel is almost laughably bad…and that’s probably the best approach to take to it. As mentioned elsewhere the ‘reservations system’ is essentially a child’s crayon drawing, which doesn't inspire a lot of confidence, the lift is hilarious, but should only be used as a form of punishment for whoever booked this hotel for you. Rooms are shabby, rather than dirty, but have an aura of gloom about them. This hotel is only a place to sleep, you couldn’t possibly spend any time there – and for that it’s fine. It is very close to Gare de l’Est, and therefore Gare du Nord (about 5 mins walk) as well as being virtually on top of a metro entrance, so good location for transport. Area isn’t very pleasant though. All of that said, if I had to do the trip again I would possibly stay there, it’s very cheap and I was only sleeping there. I would never take my wife there though!

I stayed here 2 nights in a triple room, with my 2 children (14 and 11), with some trepidation after reading some of these reviews, but it was absolutely fine. It's a cheap hotel, but plenty good enough if you want somewhere near the Gare du Nord and the Gare de l'Est - you can walk from the Eurostar terminal. The room was smallish and a bit sloping but clean and the bathroom was fine. The walls weren't particularly thick, but it wasn't noisy. The lift was a hoot! The staff were perfectly pleasant and the breakfast was ok - nothing fancy, just something to keep you going before lunch. It's not fantastic luxury, obviously, but at £104 per person for 2 nights, including breakfast and a return Eurostar from London, I thought it was pretty good value.
