Location

Poreč is a town of true hospitality and a rich tourist tradition. It is located on the western coast of the Istrian peninsula and abounds with clean sea and beaches.

A stroll down the centuries old streets leads to the square, Marafor, in which there was once a forum in ancient times. The central Poreč street, Decumanus, has been preserved from the time when Poreč was an ancient port. Along with the museums and galleries located in beautiful town palaces, you must visit the Euphrasian Basilica. A glittering mosaic which covers the inside and facade of the church is one of the most beautiful preserved works of Byzantine art.

The concrete beach is 200 metres from the hotel. Deck chairs and available to rent. The hotel is well equipped with a sports centre, changing cabins and showers.

My wife and stayed at this hotel in October. From the outside it looks like an office biulding but inside it was spaciuos clean and modern. The food was excellent there was plenty of choice both at breakfast and dinner. We would normally have at least one evening out at a restaurant but there was realy no need, as there was always something we liked on the buffet. Also it is about a 15min walk through a pine forest, although this is lit it seemed a bit of risk maybe in summer its busier. Drinks in hotel 19 Kuna, £1.90 for a half litre, so not bad coffee from 80pence and spirits start with the local stuff at £1.40, this seems ok but the measures are . 03 of a litre, hardly covers the bottom of the glass, its the same in all the local bars. Any imported spirits are quite dear and then mixers on top. All in all the hotel is in a lovely spot only a short walk to the sea on round the wooded headland into Porec which is a lovely old town. Unfortunately our holiday was spoilt by two things, firstly this hotel is a conference hotel and the last two nights they entertained some sort of jewellry agents and maybe 150 croats. The hotel bar of which there is only one in the evening was inhabitable for anyone wanting a quite drink. On the second night it was so bad we drove into Porec but most places closed by 10pm. Also I wanted to pay my bill by credit card and for three days the reception said the phone line was broken and we would have to pay cash!. Not just me everybody!. When I said I did,nt want to they said that I should use the cash machine in the hotel and suddenly they didnt understand english very well. This is not a stand alone hotel they have three on site plus more in other places and they could.nt take credit cards?. Come on. I have written to Valamar hotels through the website but of course have not had a responce. What a shame they let themselves down like this. chrisjones.mjupholstery@hotmail.co.uk
