Best Western Hotel Executive - Siena, Italy 

My husband and I stayed at the Mercure Siena Degli Hotel next to the Best Western Executive in Siena, Italy. We needed bus tickets and was told we could buy them at the BW Executive. Once we walked into their lobby, we didn't want to leave. The lady at the front desk was very nice (the people at our hotel were very impersonal). We decided to take a look around and found a charming bar with a bartender, Mateo, who couldn't have been more wonderful and welcoming. In fact, he offered to show us around Siena if we would like. We had drinks in the courtyard which was so relaxing (our hotel had nothing outside, the bar was in the lobby and was as antiseptic as their dining hall. Couldn't really call it a restaurant, more like a retirement home cafeteria. ) We ended up at the BW Executive the next night for dinner, the food was very Italian and excellent. If we are ever near Siena again, this is where we will stay for sure! And, we will be looking for Mateo!

OK, we had one night in Siena, and looked at the best value hotels near to the city. I must admit I expected this hotel to be miles outside when I 1st booked it at ?31!! Still, the price wasnt far short of outstanding and it was a 'known name'. Pleasantly surprised to find an excellent hotel with a large if basic room, spotless throughout, great breakfast and a short drive (or 20 minute walk tops) to the city centre. Parking was easy and plentiful, and although minibar prices were silly (again the same as most places). I dont know what the normal room rate is good, but its a fine hotel with good staff and you can park easily -you wont find that any nearer to the city! Handy for the Rail station and University district/Hospital too!
