We used Hotel Regyn as a base to explore the Montmartre area, it was very conveniently located. Overlooking the Place des Abbesses and just feet from the Metro stop (but be warned the Metro runs very deep here and requires about 8 flights of stairs to get to the street – take the elevator if you have luggage!), it was a very safe area. It’s convenient to a street of bars and restaurants along Rue des Abbesses and it’s a 15 min walk to Sacra Coeur and the Place du Tertre, famous for its artists and full of places to eat and shop. We choose this hotel for the advertised view and for a small amount more we upgraded to a room with a view and it was spectacular. At night we marveled at the view of the Eiffel tower lit up and clearly visible. The room was nicely done and adequate size, not cramped, with a clean and modern bathroom with an enclosed shower – as opposed to some of the half shower doors we’ve come across. Small elevator but at least it had one as we were on the 5th floor. Staff was friendly, not all of them spoke English.

We were recommended the hotel by someone who had stayed there before. We were told not to expect anything amazing but that it would be a good location. It is on a square, right opposite a church and beside Abesses metro station and, although we didn't use very much public transport during our stay, the hotel was exactly in the right spot for us to be exploring Montmarte and walk home from the gig we'd booked the trip around. Booking our rooms (four of us booked two rooms separately) was simple as I just emailed them and they took my credit card details to secure the booking. There was a little confusion over whether or not breakfast was included in the rate but, apparently, it is a separate charge. We stayed for two nights, midweek, arriving from London on the Eurostar at Gare du Nord and it was only a short walk from the train station. The hotel is what some would call 'quaint' and I suppose fairly shabby by some people's standards but it was just what we needed. We stayed on the fourth floor with a view over the square (noisy and full of life during the day and completely quiet during the night) and out to the Eiffel Tower. Amazing, and very romantic! We didn't have any problems whilst staying there and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a great base to explore from and a fantastic view. Just don't expect anything luxurious from the rooms themselves. I will add a photo of the view from the window of our room soon.
