J'adore le Montalembert- but check your bill for accuracy

The Montalembert could be hands-down my favorite hotel on the Left Bank. It's a stylish, Fashion Week type of hotel, but with a friendly demeanor that one would not see at the Costes, for instance. Rooms are small, but it's Paris, after all. The elevators are incredibly small as well- this is not a hotel for larger travelers. It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but if you are a style-conscious traveler wanting a boutique feel, and you are tired of Andree Putman design and even more tired of the "tude at the Costes (and would rather stay Left Bank), it could be for you as well. The location is fantastic, in the best part of the 7th, walking distance to great shops and restaurants. You'll find the staff happy to give you advice on just about anything. The only issue I've had with the Montalembert is that at one point I stayed there apparently at the same time as someone else with my name, and somehow got double-charged for my first night. I was never able to get the hotel to unravel it. It's a sign of my fondness for this hotel that I would stay there again.

I stayed at the Montalembert with a friend in December. We had a twin bedded Suite on the first floor and it was absolutely superb. Lovely entrance, loads of hanging space, safe, well stocked mini bar, very comfortable sitting room with excellent flat screen etc. The bathroom was lovely as well, lovely towelling robes, slippers, Molton Brown (one of my favourites) etc. The lavatory was separate - by the entrance door which was nice in some ways but meant bit of trape backwards and forwards, so to speak. When we returned our first evening we were greeted by a delicious bottle of champagne and chocolates and a personal note from the Manager. The staff, well, they are the best. So helpful, nothing too much trouble, booking restaurants, a driver for us, carrying things up and down to and from the Suite - nothing was too much trouble. We did not eat in the hotel as we had such a long list of eateries etc to try - I will write about our experiences in the restaurant section - but we did have drinks in the lovely little bar area with warm fire, lovely lights and flowers. I am sorry if people found the other rooms small and would strongly recommend finding some extra Euros and have 'a Suite experience' at this hotel which will make your stay in Paris even more memorable. My thanks again to everyone at the Montalembert and we cannot wait to visit the hotel again.

Pros- location (near St Germain), very clean, nicely fitted out (if small room s but what not out of ordinary for Paris) , neutral and modern decor Cons- old teabag left in one of the jampots on breakfast tray (sloppy) , v.old and small lifts (not out of the ordinary for Paris but you may struggle with lots of luggage/baby pram)

As a fussy, travel snob I can say that we were very happy with our stay at the Montalembert. We have been to Paris before and were staying for 6 nights. Our room was on the 2nd floor on the back on the hotel, it was very quiet. The staff are very friendly, helpful and all speak English. The location is on a quiet side street off of St. Germain - a two minute walk to the 'Rue du Bac' Metro station, about 10 minute walk from all the shops and restaurants on St. Germain, and walking distance to the Louvre and Musee D'Orsay. We had breakfast in the hotel every morning. It was very nice except for the smoke, which I understand will not be allowed in public spaces after January...I hate smoke. Our room was one of the modern types, just like the website photos. It was small, but comfortable and very clean.
