A Non-EventPosted: Mon, Apr 14 2008I booked to stay 2 nights at this hotel for a last minute cheapie weekend away. I chose this hotel because it was cheap (40 Euros single), very central (a stone's throw from the Louvre), and after my guidebook recommended it as clean and very quiet (I'm a light sleeper). But when I arrived I was told my room wasn't available due to some work that needed doing at the hotel (my French is a bit mediocre so I only got the gist, but I think they said it was something to do with the roof that had only gone wrong the night before, and that the workmen were using the window in my room for access. FYI, I’d neglected to give the hotel my mobile number, so they hadn't been able to contact me to let me know). They'd checked with their sister property and they could accommodate me there.
The other hotel (Le Petit Trianon) was unfortunately situated right on a busy cross-street in a noisy neighbourhood, surrounded by restaurants and bars with outdoor tables, and all the rooms faced the street so they were very noisy. I found somewhere else to stay.
I never got to see the inside of the Hotel de Lille so I can't be hugely helpful to other travellers (although considering the bedbug comments left by our guests I may consider it a lucky break) – I just thought I'd better mention the experience so any other guests who stay there know what to expect if the hotel wants to move you to their sister property.
I ended up staying at the Hotel de Nesle, FYI, which was very nice.
