Hotel de la Paix - Paris, France     

We stayed for three nights at the Paix Madeleine hotel, which is located in a good area. The hotel itself is average for Paris, although more expensive than some. However, the lady manager was very hostile and offensive to us, apparently taking us for Americans (we are Australian). A number of rules were quoted to us, including: - no food or drinks to be kept in the room refrigerator, no food to be consumed in the bedrooms or lobby (other than the hotel breakfast), no airconditioning can be used unless the manageress deems it to be hot. Apparently other guests received similar treatment. We will never stay there again.

Wow, we were very suprised at how unpleasant our stay was. The year before, we stayed at Hotel Leveque and loved it. But we didnt feel the same at this place. First off, the front office staff seemed only to care about smoking and watching the World Cup. I fellt like I was intruding them everytime I came up there. Also, they asked us during the afternoon if we would move to a different room, as they made a mistake and needed our current room. So my father said yes, and they moved us to a SMALLER room. Well, I needed a bed of my own, so they said they would send one. What do they send? A rollaway bed, with NO mattress, just the wooden rollaway frame. The breakfast was actually very good, so thats the only positive thing I have to say! As far as small rooms, if you travel to Europe, be prepared to not see a gigantic super sized American rooms! Plus, you are there to explore the city, not to lounge in your room! :)
