Au Nouvel Hotel Lyon - Paris, France     

The hotel was very handy for Gare du Lyons and exploring on foot. It was very clean and for one night it was ideal. the one thing that concerned me was no evidence of any fire detection and no alternate exit from our room other than the door. The only window gave out into a very tiny courtyard. The basement area where breakfast is served is very dark & poky too. i don't think it would pass UK Health & Safety regulations. Very friendly nice people but wouldn't stay there again.

The location of this hotel is awesome. A 2-3 minute walk to a major subway, bus and train station and less than that to superb cafes and restaurants. We walked everywhere in Paris anyway and found this a great base as it is so central and at a good price. The hotel rooms are small and basic but we were only sleeping there and they served the purpose for us. Our only issue was the guy who charged us an additional 6,40 (had to be 'cash'!) on our last day for "taxes" yet our reservation page from the booking website said all rates and taxes were included. We couldn't find it at the time so we paid but on our return home we looked it up and were not impressed. We had asked for a receipt at the time too and he was reluctant to give us one but did so only after I pressed him for it repeatedly and said I wouldn't pay unless I got a receipt for it. I reckon it went into his booze fund for a night out later. It was just too dodgy. Not worth us hassling the hotel for but be warned - don't throw out your booking form/receipt and if it says "all rates and taxes included" then DO NOT pay the dodgy little guy behind the desk anything more!
