Best Western Grand Hotel de L'Univers Saint-Germain - Paris, France 

This hotel is right in the heart of St. Germain. It is a fabulous location if you want to be near wonderful restaurants, cafes and shopping. You can walk to the river and are easily in reach of Notre Dame and the Louvre. The staff is very nice and friendly. The accomodations are clean, but tiny, tiny, tiny. Everything is very old (it is a 14th century building after all) but the bathrooms seem fairly modern. The bid linens and musty smell of the hallways and rooms could be improved upon. Overall I would stay there again beccause the price is right and the location is even better!

We booked this hotel after reading the mostly positive reviews it received on TripAdvisor, and I have to agree with most of them. The hotel was in an excellent location, minutes from a metro station, and within easy walking distance of Notre Dame, the Seine, the Louvre and other attractions. The area around the hotel was perfect, with many excellent restuarants close by, and even on the road the hotel was located on. The room we were allocated was clean and unusually decorated, as most of the rooms seemed to be. The only gripe I had was that the room was a smoking one; apparently the only one on our floor! We certainly hadn't asked for one, and I'm sure we specified non-smoking. The main issue was that the room smelt of stale smoke, and needed a lot of airing, but it didn't cause any major problems. We didn't have breakfast at the hotel, so can't comment on that, but we were very impressed with the location and cleanliness; we were given clean towels every day after leaving the sign on our door to have our bed made. It was definitely worth the money, which we saw as actually quite reasonable in comparison to some of the ridiculously overpriced hotels in Paris!
