Me and my girlfriend booked 5 nights at Notre Dame Hotel, this turned out to be a big mistake. Upon arrival at 11:30pm after a long day's travelling we were greeted by a careless non English speaking receptionist. We showed him our booking reservation which he viewed for several minutes before shrugging and telling us that we did not have a reservation at this hotel. Obviously at this point we were quite angry and we explained to him that the reservation clearly stated that we had the room for 5 nights. He offered us little help and told us to ring a representative of 'Hostel World' we refused to do this and demanded that he rang his manager, after several more minutes of arguing he eventually made the call. We were then told that the manager was on his way and the 'kind' recpetionist offered us a seat whilst we waited. After about half an hour the manager eventually arrived, he explained to us that because of the rugby world cup our en-suite room had been double booked even though I had recieved a confirmation of the resevervation via email that very morning. To resolve this problem the manager offered us one night at the hotel at a discounted price because the room was not en-suite, he then explained that he would move us to a better, "more expensive" hotel for the remaining four nights at no extra cost as long as we paid him there and then. We were told to meet in the foyer the following evening at 6pm so he could book us a taxi to take us to the other hotel, as you can imagine, we were not best pleased with this news which left us extremely worried the following day about the safety of our luggage (which was stored in an unlocked and easily-accessible room) whilst we were out in Paris. All that we wanted to do after all of this was have a good night's sleep in our hotel room, however the room we were given meant that this would not be possible. The bed was uncomfortable and dirty, we had a view of a wall out of the window and the furniture and decor was extremely dated and in need of refurbishment. After seeing the state of the room we were actually glad that we only had to stay there for one night. To top it all, in order to shower we had to pay for a key to the shower room. This is not what we expected after booking an en-suite room. The toilet facilities were also disgraceful, with blood on the wall and no toilet roll. After a rough night's sleep we were awoken by the delightful sound of a man in the next room coughing and spitting. All in all, our short stay in the Notre Dame Hotel was terrible and we were extremely happy to leave. Although the location of the new hotel we were taken to was not as good, the room was much much nicer and we were able to enjoy the rest of our stay in Paris. I advise that you avoid this hotel at all costs, and that you are careful when making bookings through HostelWorld.com. Following the trip I emailed a complaint to the company, to which I got no response.
