"Cheap, Clean, Fantastic Location"Posted: Wed, Dec 31 1969Value:
3I, like other people, was slightly concerned reading some of the reviews of this hotel, but needn't have been at all. It was great!
I came with my husband for the weekend of his 30th birthday. Funds were tight so I had booked the budget room right on the top floor of the hotel. We found it was quite comical how small it was, with two single beds and a tiny amount of floorspace. The wardrobe was one of those where your clothes are front-facing because it wasn't deep enough for a hanger! The bathroom door only opened half way, being stopped by the sink, and was ridiculously small. But the size of the room was a minor drawback. And lets face it, you don't come to Paris to sit in your hotel room.
The location is fantastic, on a gorgeous old street full of restaurants and gorgeous little independent shops. The Place de la Contrescarpe just up the street is a great place for people watching, and there are cafe-bars, not to mention the all important Haagen-Daaz shop where you can do so. Then there is the Pantheon, Notre Dame, Les Halles, Jardins de Luxemburg, St. Germain etc. all within easy walking distance.
The staff in the hotel were fine, and let us leave our bags there for a few hours after checking out. We didn't breakfast there, as there were too many other places nearby to try out, but it looked like a standard continental breakfast. Our room was clean and nicely decorated, with an LCD TV. There was a knack to making sure the shower didn't flood the bathroom, but after the first time you learn pretty quickly.
All in all the location of the hotel made our stay. It is fantastic value for money. This was our second visit to Paris, and I will stay here for all subsequent visits. I just might book a bigger room!
