The Gardern Opera Hotel is a three star near the gare d'est. It would be a one star in most places but Paris hotels generally do not meet the standards other travelers are accustomed to. The three stars comes from having certain amenities, hair dryer, tissues, shower, breakfast and TV are the notables. Our room had the shower head that wasn't working, a leak in the sink pipes and a bathroom fan that didn't work. Since we usually peek in other rooms while they are being cleaned we know that the rooms we saw were no bigger than the one we had. Once mentioned to the owners the matters were redressed very promptly. The room is so small that the bed practically touches both sides of the room. Walls are paper thin. Breakfast is store bought, not bakery bought breads and pastries. The owners, however, are kind and willing to help and the staff is generally courteous. The front desk help is spotty in the evenings after the owners retire. The location is really great, near stores (Monoprix has everything you may have forgotten at home and it is just a block away) and restaurants and just one half block from the eau de chateau metro station. We would not return there except in a dire emergency.

It is a nice hotel if you don't want any extras. A simple family owned hotel. Service was very helpful, friendly and could speak good english. Very clean also. There is a euro per day tax they tell you about when you get there. And if you want breakfast that they offer an extra 6 euro per day. The neighborhood was questionable. I would definitely stay again. It was very convenient being as how I like to walk everywhere. Both Notre Dame and the Louvre are within a mile of the hotel and there is a nice Starbucks on the way to Notre Dame.

This was a vacation trip for me and my brother and when we arrived at this hotel, they sent us to a hotel on the opposite side of the street, and told us to come back the next day at 2 for check in, because they must ran out of rooms. The hotel they sent us to across the street was unusual and dirty. The next day when we got our room at the garden opera , we got only 1 bed instead of the 2. The bathroom door was not able to shut, along with a window that would never shut. I wouldn't stay there again and would rather stay somewhere closer to the main attractions of Paris.
