OK for Smokers Posted: Thu, Jul 08 2004 I stayed in this hotel 17th April 04 for 7 nights. We
asked for a non- smoking room, but the curtains and padded headboard reeked, which was disturbing. The window box outside the window was packed with cigarette ends from previous visitors. Good clean bedding and towels every day and plenty of hot water. Which was really good. The bathroom was nice but the bath only useful if you are 3'6'' or less! The room was very small with inadequate storage for visits longer than a couple of days. No cupboards or drawers to put things in, just a table two chairs and a small table beside each bed. The wardrobe was open. ie. no doors. The skirting borad and decor needed a spruce up. The breakfast was ample but a bit boring and repetative, no fruit either. But the staff were very freindly and helpful at all times, and this did not spoil a very pleasant holiday. I thought for a 'superior' 3 star rating was pushing it a bit.

Average Parisian 3 star hotel Posted: Sat, Feb 07 2004 I stayed 3 nights at the Pavillion Monceau Hotel in January 04. The hotel is located near the Wagram metro stop. It is a bit away from the main tourist zone but I liked the nice residential neighborhood around the hotel and it is only a 5 minute walk to Park Monceau. It is an average 3 star hotel. The front desk staff were friendly, helpful and spoke good english. I stayed on the top floor but there is an elevator so no problems getting up and down. The breakfast buffet, which was included in my AA Vacations package, was good. The room was small but the bathroom was large and recently renovated. The beds were comfortable and the room was clean. My room was on a courtyard/air shaft but because it was on the top floor I could see the sky and got natural light. The good part of the courtyard room was no street noise.
The hotel reeks of tobacco smoke but I have never stayed in a hotel in Paris that wasn't like a big ashtray! The Pavillon Monceau is an average Parisian 3 star hotel - nothing great but not horrifying.
This is a fantastic, small hotel. The continental breakfast was more American than European. You can't beat the location and the staff went above and beyond to be helpfull.
