Avoid room 6 with the triple beds! - which may be allocated instead of a twin.

My friend and I booked this hotel via Eurostar for a 3 night stay. On first impressions it seemed much nicer than it appeared on the website. The location was great, just off Rue des Abbessess with its many street cafes, Sunday antique market and shops and a short walk from Sacre Coeur. The Abbess metro is about 5 minutes walk away, only a few stops from Gare de Nord and also Blanche metro station which is slightly further. The hotel was spotlessly clean and attractively furnished with lovely watercolours of local scenes on the walls but we weren't completely happy with our room for a several reasons . Room 6 is under the breakfast area, and the chair legs dragging loudly across the tiled floor above is very annoying at 6.30am. A bit like fingernails on a blackboard! Also, the lever type plug in the wash hand basin was broken and the plug was stuck in the closed position. I reported this on the first day and was continually told that 'desole', but no one was able to look at it until the next day, and the next and the next....(I really hope it was fixed for the next person - I think it actually needed to be replaced by a plumber). Consequently, the basin filed up with water very quickly and then could not be used which was not very pleasant. We had to brush our teeth over the bath. The staff managed to empty it somehow every day , (with a straw?)but we could not. We asked to move rooms but were told the hotel was full. If we had not paid in advance we would have insisted in a reduction in the bill. The bath did not have a shower curtain and the shower attachment had to be hand held so it was dfficult to keep the water in the bath. Some of the tiles in the bathroom were cracking and coming away from the wall. I had asked for a twin bed room, but got a triple bed. Luckily, this meant we could move the 3rd bed away from the wardrobe door so we could open the wardrobe but it would have been trickier if there were 3 of us!

On arriving at hotel, initial impressions were favourable. As soon as we got out of the lift to go to our room, the decoration appeared shabby. On going into the small room, it continued to be shabby. The room and bathroom were clean, but definitely need some decorating and new tiles. There were cracked tiles on floor and walls. The bath was a half bath, O.K. for midgets, but not for full sized people, which would have been alright if there had been a shower. There was a shower attachment to taps, but no shower curtain , so if one did use it, the water did not stay in bath! There were no carpets in the room, corridors or stairs. Most surprising as this does help reduce noise. It was obvious what people were doing in their rooms when they were in them, as walls were thin! Our room was quiet away from the street (it is a very lively area) as we were overlooking the courtyard. But I did feel sorry for people staying in rooms on the stairs, very noisy with passing people. Breakfast was fine and the ladies were helpful. The hotel was not far from Sacre Couer and there were plenty of places to eat in area. Also not far to metro. This was my third trip to Paris and have stayed in the area before. These were 2 star hotels as well, but were much better decorated. I would not choose to stay at pavillon de montmatre again, although the top floor was being decorated, so prehaps things will improve.

¡a saltar!).
