5When we found out about the transit strike taking place during our visit, I re-booked a package hotel we had on the outskirts of the city for the reasonably priced and nicely situated Best Western Acadia Opera.
This hotel had the perfect location for walking to the attractions - 15 minutes to the Louvre, 25 to Notre Dame - lots of others near by. We're from New York City and are accustomed to doing a lot of walking and this was very doable - we didn't use mass transit once. The neighborhood felt safe and lively and there were lots of good options to eat and have drinks near by.
Nearby O'Sullivan's pub (while not sounding necessarily Parisian) was packed with a lively crowd and live music when we went, there's also a great Italian place with delicious desserts in a railcar near by, and lots of fabulous Parisian street food to be eaten (do the crepe with bananas and Nutella!).
The receptionist at the hotel very kindly made the switch from a twin bed room to a room with a double for us, and although the room was European in smallness, we found it cozy and comfortable.
Desk staff was generally very friendly and happy to call cabs when you needed them to (a word of warning - cars tended to take 10-20 minutes from the call which could make you tense if you're on the way to the airport).
In the room, the linens were soft, the carpet clean, and the bathroom emaculate - the shower even had good water pressure and a tub. The view from the window was on to a pretty Parisian street and across from the hotel was a good grocery store to get snacks and bottled water.
Only downside to the hotel that I could see would be the lack of a mini-fridge to store water but I think that's probably mainly an American amenity.
Overall loved the hotel and would definitely stay again.
