Acadia Opera - Paris, France     

No shower curtain, no working safety deposit, air conditioning did not work, only given extra pillows once Manager had checked we had looked properly for ones that should have been in room! No-one on Reception took responsibility for safety deposit box - all it needed was to be reprogrammed but this could not be done during our stay (3 nights) so had to carry passports etc with us everywhere we went. Shower curtain was promised but never appeared - extra towels appears once so we would not flood downstairs! Room clean, renovations being done on floor 1, we were on floor 5 but adhesive/paint fumes filtered upstairs not a problem as such but a bit smelly. Only one person concerned that nothing had been done about shower/safety deposit box but this was as we were leaving so a bit late. If you want no frills, basic, quiet hotel this is the one for you. If you want any help with queries do not bother - it was all too much of an effort for staff to be helpful. Rest of short break wonderful. Buy Metro ticket pass for all days staying as well worth it. Paris information staff at Gard du Nord fantastic - very helpful, patient ,and did not laugh at our woeful attempt at speaking French!!

Having stayed before, I knew what to expect... a good safe option and within convenient reach of Grande Boulevards Metro though one lacking much in the way of character. The immediate location I thought excellent with a good range of cafes/bars within walking distance but once inside I felt you could be anywhere! Room was clean and the bed comfortable (but very low!) though the air con struggled to cool the room down. Also, a bit of a whiff from the bathroom that never quite went away! No English language channels on the TV, but are you really in Paris to watch the TV? Breakfast - didn't sample it but would seem to be a little overpriced at 14 Euro when there are many alternatives available within a couple of minutes walk. Staff friendly and helpful, looking after our luggage was no problem. All in all, a sound reliable choice. It won't let you down, but if you are looking for a bit of French character maybe there are better options at a similar price.
