Royal Fromentin - Paris, France

The room was clean but quite small -- this may be the case in all center-Paris hotels of this price or class. The hotel itself was very nice -- interesting lobby, etc. It's a only a few steps from Place Pigalle -- which I imagined might have become more "gentrified" since the last time I saw it many years ago, but hasn't. With its open offerings of "adult" entertainment, I don't think this is the place to stay with young children. Nor is the Hotel Royal Fromentin appropriate for the business traveler who needs some room to spread out. But it suited my needs, and the service was friendly and very helpful.

Booked into a room we could not stay in

We were really looking forward to this trip as we were taking our nephew for his first time in Paris. We had booked a while ago, choosing the hotel as we liked the look of the style and location. Only when we arrived, we were told that builders in our room had broken a window and they had no rooms for us. They booked us into another hotel that is unlike anything I would have booked us in, being small, grubby and nothing like the Fromentin. We returned to the Frometin to find an alternative place to stay, but the staff couldn't have cared less. We were only in Paris for a weekend, so did not have time to search for another hotel, It was a very disappointing and upsetting experience. The staff did not care, and what happened to our room begs the question of why this hotel was taking bookings for rooms that still had building work going on. When we booked, and on the website, there was no mention of any building work, despite the hotel being covered in scaffolding when we arrived. Very disappointing and untrustworthy in my opinion, and marred what should have been a special trip. Its really put me off returning to Paris.

A highlight of Paris

We did not actually stay at the Fromentin. We dropped in before the show at the Moulin Rouge and certainly wished we had booked here than at the hotel we were at. I had heard that the Royal Fromentin was famous for their presentaion of Absinthe. We were certainly NOT disappointed. Our host was as impsih as the Absinthe was. We felt like we were mingling with the likes of Gougan and Van Gogh. A truly beautiful atmosphere. The furniture was quite comfortable and the woods were rich. A beautifull huge fireplace centered the room. If you are visiting the Montmatre or Moulin Rouge area, you HAVE to stop in here and take a load off your feet.
