Good Price, Nice Room

We stayed here 5 nights, , facing on rue Jenner, overlooking a small triangle park. Everything went smoothly, everything worked. The hotel was recently refurbished, still new enough. Large enough rm, and nice bath/shower. The bar in the lobby was attractive but I saw no one there. We didn't try the 15 euro breakfast. The Jardin des Plantes and the National Library are the only nearby Paris sites, but the metro is close. Some bakeries, groceries and cafes close by, and a pretty good Chinese restaurant. Walk to Place d'Italie for some better restaurants. I worried that we might hear sirens from nearby hosptal with the windows open at night; we didn't, pretty quiet for Paris. (The a/c wasn't working we were told) Area seemed very safe. We got a great bargain through T-City, Note: from CDG you can take the RER train to gare du Nord, then Metro 5 to St Marcel station, about 2 blocks from hotel.

Bijou hotel with boutique feel. Small but well decorated rooms, very clean. Beds a little hard but otherwise a comfortable stay.

Had to find a hotel quick, as I experienced a problem with my original reservation. Was pleasantly surprised with the hotel. Not a lot of activities around this area, but the train station was close. Would recommend without reservations.

My wife and I stayed at Villa Lutece for 5 nights in March 2008. Upon check-in, they at first didn't have our reservation, but had the issue resolved within 15 minutes. I compliment the front desk for being able to take care of this issue, because it could have been a disaster. The reception area and bar are exactly like the photos. Very chic and modern. There wasn't much activity in there, but if you like hanging out at the hotel, this was a nice space. Our room was a little weird, but functional. It was a split-level room with the bathroom on the first floor, and a spiral staircase leading to the bedroom on the second level. The square footage is about what I expected out of a standard double European room, but the design made it tough. There was really only enough space on for 1 person's bag and contents on the second level, where the closet is. So, I had to leave my bag and clothes under the stairs. This isn't a huge deal, but if you are not good at negotiating steep, narrow, spiral steps, then you might be bothered by it. Breakfast was good and consistent. There were pastries, bread, scrambled eggs, bacon, cheese, apple sauce, coffee, tea, juice, etc. The lady working breakfast was very visible and cheerful. The food was fine if not good, and there was plenty of space for every group to have their own table. The location is 1 block from the nearest Metro stop. We walked to Notre Dame one day in about 25 minutes, but I would not recommend walking from the hotel much. The Metro of course is very easy, and if you plan to walk to and from the hotel everyday to the major sights, it can be very exhausting over the course of a few days. Overall, our stay was excellent and we got exactly what we were looking for. We wanted a modern, clean, well run hotel, in a location close to the metro at a reasonable price. Actually, the price was below what we were willing to spend, but none of the other hotels we considered were even close to the price of Villa Lutece. I would stay again without hesitation.
