Le General Hotel - Paris, France     

I just returned from my trip in Paris. After reading the reviews on this hotel on this site and others I decided that for the price it could not be beat. The hotel itself was everything they promised and more. Staff was very friendly especially Sophie, who helped us daily with metros, reservations and train trips to the champagne region in France. The hotel is beautiful, very modern and clean. The amenities were great, and the room very clean and quite. I had asked for an extra bed for 2 nights and they were very accommodating, did not charge us extra for this. Staff is available 24 hours a day and everyone speaks enough English to get by. The location of the hotel is close to a Metro station but not walking distance to any of the main attractions in Paris. For the price $170 euro it was a deal, however because of the location I would probably not stay here again. Like I said the metro station was very close less than 500 feet but in Paris I would have wanted to just walk and not have to bother with the metro. It becomes very inconvenient when you want to wash up or change your clothes for night. Le General was a great experience and I thank the hotel staff for being so accommodating. Beware in Paris everyone speaks English (they are taught in grade school) but very few are willing to help out the Ugly Americans.

If your easily impressed you will probably like this hotel. As other reviewers have mentioned the decor is funky etc etc but the hospitality is poor (clinical). No-one here will go out of their way to help you if need be. The room service is virtually non-existant. The front desk lady was rude and confused about our booking. If you're a couple on your own it is probably adequate for your needs though there are much better hotels out there. As far as boutique hotel standards go this falls far short of the mark. I wouldn't recommend this as a boutique hotel to anyone. The level of service that you get at a holiday inn for example would be better but the surroundings more drab.
