Best Western Plaza Elysees - Paris, France     

We stayed in this hotel for a weekend for our wedding anniversary. The hotel is clean, well run and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The building is old but the rooms are nicely decorated and clean. They are not damp or musty which was my main concern. The bedroom is average size and the bathroom is very clean and not too small. Location is very good, walking distance from Champs Elysee and we got the red bus tour and found it very good. No iron in room. Flat screen TV - good reception. Small lift - will take 4 people max. Mini fridge in room stocked with drinks, water and chocolate. Check prices before you eat or drink.

My girlfriend and I wanted a slightly better quality hotel for our visit to Paris, and so looked for a four star. We were worried that this would be a slightly higher rate hotel because of its good location and not because of quality, but we thought that the 4 star rating would mean that both the location and hotel would be good. Unfortunately we were very wrong. The hotel is nowhere near the standard I would expect for a 4 star: The rooms are only slightly bigger than the bed The bathroom facilities were reasonably good, but not clean - our toilet was stained beyond cleaning for example. Also, we found the staff difficult and rude - for example, we had booked a non smoking room and got allocated to a smoking room and they were difficult about moving us - it took us 20 minutes to persuade them to change the room we were in. Also, there was building decorating work going on which meant that there was no running water for whole days. We have no discount for this. The only positives I have are: 1. The air conditioning was very effective 2. The location was good - 10 min walk to champs elysee. However, all metro stations were also around 10 mins walk, so not that quick to get somewhere else. Overall - don't book here - you can get a much better hotel for a lower room rate if you are willing to have a slightly less prestigious location. I have stayed in Paris before and had a much better time staying further out and taking a 15 minute journey in.
