Haus Maximilian - Bad Tolz, Germany     

We stayed at the hotel for a week in April, 2007. It was our first visit to Europe so we were not sure what to expect. We loved the location of this property - easy walking distance to shops and restaurants. The staff was very attentive and did their best to make us comfortable. It was very reasonably priced also. Our room had a lovely private patio with seating, perfect to enjoy a beer after a long day of sightseeing. The hotel is about a 20 minute walk from the train station, so, even though we had rented a car, we left the car and took the train when we wanted to visit the city of Munich. Breakfast was included with the room and consisted of cereal, breads, fruit, coffee, tea, juice, cold cuts, yogurt. There is also a spa attached to this hotel but we did not make use of it. The town was wonderful with lots of little sidewalk cafes. Now, a few words of advice.....the only soap in the bathroom was a small tube of body soap/shampoo - bring your own small bars of soap. The towels were odd - very soft polyester that would not dry your body at all. The robes provided with the room were cotton and dried us better than the towels! All in all, a lovely first stay in Europe.
