I have stayed here before, when it was the De Vere Arms, but this nice little mini-hotel is as good as it was then. My room (number 1) has a very comfy double bed with a high quality mattress and good sheets. Well decorated, nice pictures, a flat screen TV and a dvd player, and a very large en suite bathroom with a double ended bath (the power shower needed repair, but that is a detail). The rooms at the front face onto the high street so are not very peaceful, but at night the traffic is much reduced. The restaurant only seems to operate at weekends, but the bar does a good quality menu of "cooked" rather than defrosted food. Service was quick and smiley. The wine list is very limited, though, and needs some work. I will definitely come back again.

Stayed there for our honeymoon, in the so called honeymoon suite. The room was baking hot and on the main road through Earls Colne, with the windows open it was extremely noisy throughout the night The room decor was tacky and would be better in neutral colours rather than it being themed, in whatever theme it was meant to be in. The bed was uncomfortable and the mini bar wasn’t stocked. ?100 per night was well over priced, certainly won’t be going back. All in all a disappointing experience.
