"Elegant, upscale"Posted: Mon, Nov 23 2009Value:
3The Sofitel is a fine place to stay. Location is about a block from the Acropolis convention center (2-minute walk), 4 blocks from Place Garibaldi where the Vieux Nice old town begins (10-minute walk) and about a 20-minute walk to the Cours Saleya flower/veggie market and the sea. The hotel is modern, upscale. The staff speaks perfect English and is friendly and helpful. The breakfast is outstanding and has a tremendous variety of top quality items. The yogurt is the best I have ever eaten. Our room was huge, had a walk-in closet, two toilet rooms and a huge marble bath with whirlpool. The view toward the east was spectacular. An open air rooftop pool and bar make for a nice place to relax. The bar is very expensive and the minibar ridiculous. Get a baguette sandwich from a stand in the Vieux Nice and buy a can of beer at the Esso station across from the Acropolis (cost 1.2 euro) as you make your way back to the hotel.
