Grand Hotel Le Florence - Nice, France

My wife and I have just returned from a week's stay at this great hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our visit, and our room at the front of the hotel (room 210) was excellent. The room was clean, well-maintained and peaceful, and provided us with everything we needed for our stay. The hotel is also in a great location- in the heart of one of Nice's shopping disctricts, close to lovely restaurants, and not far from the train station. The only thing that you need to be aware of, is that the air-conditioning is not switched on in the rooms during the winter months. However, you may find that the temperature in the rooms (especially those at the back of the hotel) can be quite warm even during the winter, especially as you cannot leave the balcony doors open at night-time or when you are out. That said, we moved to a lovely (cool) room at the front of the hotel, and enjoyed a nice stay at this convenient, good value hotel.

Hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. Clean enough except for the shower curtain in our bathroom which probably needs to be changed. We only stayed one night and the hotel room met our requirements

Great staff. Some rooms are very very small - but it's OK if you don't care. We asked to change room and it was no problem. We got the junior suite on 5th floor with terrace, very nice. The doors are very thin so anything happening in the common areas can be heard.

The location was good...close to the old town and beach. The office staff wasn't too helpful when it came to booking another night at the hotel. We asked one employee if we could book another night, and we were told that there was only (a more expensive) suite available. He failed to mention that the next day was a national holiday, and that it might be a good idea just to take it. Later that day we asked another employee if any rooms had freed up. By that time there was nothing, and suite was no longer available. It wasn't until later that day that she informed us of the holiday. We had to scramble to find another hotel (very difficult at that time), and ended up paying a lot more elsewhere.

Unfortuante experience

Because of a rail strike in Italy we were unable to reach Nice on July 7, the first night of the 4 nights for which we had reserved and prepaid. We tried to reach the hotel and the numbers listed by Travelocity, but could not. When we arrived on the 8th, even though we had prepaid, the room had been given to someone else and we were told that we were out of luck. They did eventually give us another room, but it was extremely small and we were made to feel that we were at fault.
