We were allocated room 401 which is well worth requesting. Fantastic full view of Port Hercule harbour, 42" Plasma TV, Jacuzzi Bath (with Bulgari toiletries), incredibly comfy bed and furnishings of the highest standard.

"Absolutely stunning"

Stayed at the Hermitage in July 2004 with my boyfriend, we were completely bowled over by the stunning reception areas. Some reviews on this site complain about the service; we had no problems at all, but I would say that the style of service is more reserved and European than the full on American cheerfulness which some travellers might be used to. We did notice several other guests repeating requests angrily in English when the French staff didn't understand them the first time - and that the staff didn't hide all of their irritation at this. However we kept trying our dreadful, ancient school French which the staff responded very well to, greeting us in French at breakfast, helping us out with words and applauding my boyfriend when he finally pronounced our room number correctly! I got the impression they appreciated the effort and would recommend this tactic. After all, how many hotel staff in the UK or US (or come to it, how many university graduates) can speak even one foreign language? Our room was beautiful, overlooking the garden rather than the marina but was enormous, with hung silk on the walls, huge comfortable bed, perfect air conditioning, and fluffy robes and slippers. The breakfast buffet each day was also very impressive, including cold meats and cheese, croissants & brioche, smoked salmon, and eggs, fresh fruit pancakes and waffles were freshly made in front of you. In fact we saved some cash (and let's face it, the Hermitage isn't cheap) by loading up at breakfast and skipping lunch. After dark, don't miss sitting out on the terrace with some champagne, looking out over the marina with the lights of the castle above you. Perfect.
