Falcon Manor Hotel - Settle, United Kingdom 

Quite a nice hotel around 10 mins walk to the centre of Settle. Our room (12) overlooked the rear of the hotel but the superb views were spoilt by a large tree growing almost directly outside the window. Cannot see the point of keeping this tree and it would benefit all other occupants of this room to have it removed! The room was clean, though in need of updating. Overall, the hotel isn't bad and they do a quite reasonable steak special on Friday nights.

We were met on arrival by presumably the owners, and got the impression from this moment on that you were intruding in their country manor. Forced smiles, being told not to put a log on the fire, the bar isn't open yet, the poor 'reception' on the television....we felt like the only people staying, which was abunbantly clear why after spending the night. If felt ( and smelt) like it had just been re -opened after a twenty year shut down, without however being updated in the process, as the decor in the thrown together rooms was stuck in the eighties . We booked for two nights but left after the first to spend a night in a cosy B&B, which was half the price and had twice as much hospitality. Only stay here if you have broken down outside, late at night and have no other option, apart from sleeping in the car. The breakfast was good, but for £170 a night you'd expect that. Dinner was average. The positive reviews for this hotel must be from people who don't get out much and who like paying over the odds for nights in 'tired' hotels.....
