Montpellier is one of the few cities in France without a (Gallo-) Roman background, whose main focus points are:
Place de la Comédie, where the fortifications of the city used to be located.
Musée Fabre which displays ceramics from Greece and the rest of Europe and a large collection of paintings from the 17th to the 19th century, with a large representation of the luminophiles movement.
The 14th century cathedral of Saint-Pierre.
And a number of castles built by wealthy merchants surrounding the city.
