We booked this hotel at kind of last minute trip revisions to include Avila. With a car it seemed a good idea to stay outside of town. That is a good idea but don't stay at the Vettonia. I admit that my wife and I did not stay either after looking over the room, restaurant and overall scene.
We arrived late afternoon on a cold and rainy Sept 30. We checked in by a nice young man in a barnlike area and given a room key. The room was spartan, dingy and frigid. It was good size as was the bathroom but was really of 1star hostel quality. We looked into the restaurant which seemed more bar than anything. We went back to the young man to ask about heat. There was none. I admit we flew the scene forfeiting the nights rent,We got lucky as there is a 5star golfhotel across the street that was virtually empty and the price was only slightly higher than the Vettonia.
Beware this place unless you are roughing it.

We booked the Hotel Vetonia (or "Rural Hoteles Vetonia") because it was away from the town of Avila. Are we ever glad we did! It is an old farm, with horse barns, etc. that has been converted to an inn. GORGEOUS!!! Vineyards, a view of Avila's lit walls at night, and away from the hustle and bustle beneath starry skies: a definite 10 out of 10. The furnishings are amazingly gorgeous and very Spanish; the bathrooms, very new. Love the cool old windows and how you open them to the aromas of lavender and other herbs growing outside your window. Have breakfast in the inn, too. How to find: take the first turnoff when you drive into Avila, keep going past ugly modern apartment houses, and follow the road to the palace - and Cebreros. Ask directions - it's worth it! And reasonably priced, too!
