Astrid - Basse Normandie, France 

Having never been to Caen we picked this hotel from the internet without knowing the layout of the city. We were pleasantly surprised that it was very convenient located just a few blocks from: the Ch?teau of William the Conqueror, the Cathedral of St Pierre, the heart of the shopping district and the central point for all the bus transportation (the “white tower”). It was easy to take bus 2 to the Caen War Memorial Museum. It’s a bit of a hike from the train station but you can take the tram which lets you off 100 meters from the hotel. The no frills room was clean with a modern bathroom which has a shower door that actually encircles you, rather than the half shower doors we’ve found at other places. At night the area was very quiet. The host was a non English speaking friendly woman who put up with my dreadful attempts at resurrecting my high school French but she got the messages and understood enough to deliver our in-room breakfast right on time.

The hotel is clean and receptionist very helpful. TV and wifi available free. Location is very central, close to restaurants and not very far from bus station. Ample parking in front of the hotel. Rooms were spacious (by french standards). Good price and very recommended for a stay in Caen.
