Dirty, dingy, dated worst hotel I have ever stayed at. On the first night we were in a family room which was frayed around the edges to say the least. The TV remote did not work we complained to the receptionist who said they would fix it...they did not. We were promised when booking one of the best rooms well if a best room is one with a kitchen air con unit on outside which goes off every 5 minutes and keeps you awake all night!
Cold showers with mediocre overpriced fayre from the restaurant. We changed rooms and again a cold shower this time no remote still dirty and dated..Only plus was 2 nights in a row we got to witness fight night in the car park (great for fans of drunken boxing!)
Compared to the other hotels rated for Braintree I would suggest you can stay somewhere cleaner and cheaper. Don't be fooled by the website's photos this is a hotel in the centre of town.

The White Hart is centrally located in Braintree and it has a pleasant atmosphere. However on arriving in the late afternoon we found it impossible to have a warm/hot shower. The water was freezing and not much power in the shower. The bath tap was a little better, you could run a bath as the water was just warm enough. On reporting the problem to the manager the response was to 'let the shower run for a few minutes'. All of the other guests in the hotel during the two nights had the same problem.
Another downfall was the fact that there is no bar for residents after closing hours and no night staff unless in an emergency.
Usually if your key says No 29 it will mean room 29 but not there! Room 29 turned out to be Room 11!
