I see theresa few bad reviews on here about this hotel however I've stayed 3 times and found it ok each time. Its centrally located - slap in the shopping heart of boulogne - its on a pedestrian street and quiet at night. It has a garage - vital as parking in boulogne is a mare. rooms are Ok - clean , tidy, basic but with all mod cons - is it a 3 star ? probably a 21/2 star really. Breakfast is good and plentiful and we find the staff fine - it helps if you try a bit of the language - a merci/bonjour goes a long way. We like it and would use again

Just returned from a 2 night stay at the Metropole. This was our first stay in Boulogne and in the winter a very central base is a real plus. The room we had at the rear of the hotel looked like it had just been refurbished..new carpet, curtains etc, so none of the problems found by other reviewers. Only fault I could find was no mirrror or plug socket in bedroom. Not a "wow" hotel, but we weren't expecting it to be. It's a friendly, bright and clean place in the best location to enjoy all of Boulogne. The town itself is much, much nicer that Calais and only 30 mins from Eurotunnel/Cite Europe . It has a good selection of local shopping and some unexpectedly good restaurants. Most bars, however, seem to close fairly early at this time of year. Our only regret? We were about 3 days too early to see what looked like a really great display of Christmas lights!
