Mellieha is a charming little town. We stayed at the hotel for 5 nights with 3 other families. The rooms were just average. The air conditioning wouldn't stay on, so we would wake up at 2:00 am drenched in sweat. We never ate at the hotel because there were too many great restaurants up and down the street. Bottom line - we were hardly at the hotel because we were site-seeing all day so it was totally sufficient.

We stayed at the Solana Hotel for 2 nights only, a very short stay, more like an emergency stop. On arrival the hotel seems very nice, stylish decor, and the staff seemed very friendly but somewhat distracted. We were given a room on the first floor facing the busy street. The room was decorated nicely (maybe they'd done an upgrade to the room judging by previous comments). We were very surprised that we had to pay for tea/coffee after the single complimentary ones were used. I only drink coffee. We went downstairs and paid for coffee for the next morning. The first night we couldn't sleep at all. The street is quite noisy, and lorries carrying heavy loads were clanking up the street. Thye next morning I saw a loose manhole in the road which must have caused the sharp clanking noises everytime anything rode over it. But you could hear regular traffic noises and voices. We asked for another room, but were told the hotel was fully booked and they couldn't move us to another room. They had some function on. I was dreading another all-night non-stop clanking. Breakfast seemed very nice actually. There was quite a lot of food, mind you we were up quite early. I think if you're going to stay in the hotel you must get up early for breakfast. The room was made up but they didn't give us the coffee we paid for. Maybe staff were distracted by this function and all the people in the hotel. I had to go to reception, who lead me elsewhere, and eventually I was back at reception, and this time they gave me extra coffee to make up for not giving me any. We watched TV but it was mainly in Italian (I think). The only English channels were BBC news, and the CNN channel. But apart from all that the view from the roof was quite good. I didn't swim in the pool on the roof. They had a steamy indoor pool. I might go again, but I wouldn't recommend staying on the first floor facing the road.
