Le Saint Georges - Vendome, France     

I stayed her for business during the second week of May, 2008. Things started off rocky....no one was even working at the hotel until 6 p.m. that was able to check us in! So we were left waiting in the lobby for an hour and half until their shift started. The hotel has a very international vibe, and my understanding is no two rooms are alike. The room was okay; large size for Europe. I stayed in room 214, My shower had poor water pressure. The wake-up call came 15 minutes later than I set it for every morning. If I spoke fluent French, I would have complained or asked about this, but since I didn't, I just learned to work around it. The room was also pretty loud since the hotel is right on the street. You could hear everyone heading to work on their motorbikes starting at 6 a.m. There was a breakfast every morning. If you came down to the breakfast before they were fully prepared, they made you wait in the lobby or told you to go back to your room. The breakfast had croissants, french baguettes, yougurt, ham, orange and apple juice, coffee, milk, and some American cereals. The real specialty of this place is the restaurant. I am sure it it is probably the best in town. I had the pleasure of eating their twice. Once I had delicious white fish, with a calamari appetizer. The next night I had a salmon appetizer with lamb ke-bobs that were excellent. I couldn't read the menu, but everything coming from the kitchen looked delicious and truly gourmet! For dessert, I had a chocolate souffle that was excellent. Try the Leffe beer, and the locally produced wines (there is both a red and white.) You can walk to most everything from the hotel as well. I walked up to the castle from the hotel which is across the river. There is also a nice church in town to visit, as well as other small restaurants and cafes. The L'Ascot is nice pub that is the only happening place in the evening.

Il n’y a pas grand choix à Vendôme. Nous avions une chambre en duplex au quatrième étage avec des escaliers qui menaient à la salle de bains et à l’endroit où se trouvait le second lit. Pas génial lorsque vous avez de jeunes enfants. La chambre était confortable. C’était bruyant, principalement à cause des murs très fins et de toutes les allées et venues des clients dans l’hôtel. Le bar est ouvert jusqu’à 4 heures du matin, ce qui est responsable de ça en grande partie. Je le recommanderais à ceux qui voyagent sans enfants et qui ont l’intention de sortir le soir. Le petit déjeuner est simple mais correct.
