Hostal Casa de Cisneros - Toledo, Spain     

When we decided to visit Toledo, we were determined to find an inn that was an integral part of the historical atmosphere, a place that would put us right in the center of this amazing city, and Hotel Cisneros was the perfect place. We were advised to park outside the walls and take a shuttle up, but the innkeeper suggested we drive up and he would park our car later...a gracious offer and slightly terrifying, as the streets are VERY narrow and our car was a Citroen sedan! But we made it there in one piece and were delighted when we saw the inn: charming, historic, well-maintained, beautiful...and right across the narrow street from the grand Cathedral so we were, indeed, right in the middle of it! The rooms were small but well-designed and utterly charming, keeping with the authentic feeling and architecture of the orignal home. The innkeeper could not have been more accommodating, speaking English competently and meeting our every need, including moving in another bed for our teenaged son. The morning breakfast was delicious and served in a lovely dining room, and the servers were very pleasant and helpful. This place is an absolute gem and a big part of why our stay in Toledo was magical and so utterly unforgettable. We couldn't recommend it highly enough and will go back as soon as we can. We booked our entire trip to Spain online, and this was our third stop on our trip. Each place had been special and Casa de Cisneros was no exception. Directly across from the cathedral, we discovered that the owners were just wrapping up an excavation that uncovered Roman foundations, Visigoth artifacts and Moorish baths. The best part is that the floors in the breakfast room and the lobby are plexiglass and give you a glimpse of what lies below. We convinced one of the managers/owners(?) to give us a tour - the workmen were still coming and going as they were finishing off the room for special events. The room was small, but most adequate, and the streets and restaurants of Toledo were the big draw. We loved the city, and highly recommend Casa de Cisneros.
