We stayed in the Miami Apartments, adjacent to the hotel. The apartments themselves were clean and well equipmed. Our apartment easily slept 4 and as there was only the two of us we had lots of space (for hanging up those all important outfits ladies!). We had maid service every day except Monday, beware though the maids start coming around about 9am. They will come back later if you wish, but you're awake by then! We had a 'do not disturb' sign but this didn't fit on the door so was next to useless. The pool was fairly small and although there were just about enough longers there's only about 8 parasols so we headed down to the beach at Cala Nova. There is a beach next to the hotel and it costs 14 Euro for two loungers and a parasol. However ten mins walk away is Cala Nova. Here the longers/parasols are 10.50 Euro. We walked along the promanade and over some rocks, not advisable with a buggy. The sea by the Miami was calm but at Cala Nova there's lots of great waves!! We found Es Canar itself a little sleepy. Having done Self Catering we wanted to eat out each night. However as we were there for 14 nights we ate in two restaurants three times and the others twice. Try the Miranda and Es Canar cafe'. The menu's were similar in all restaurants. The town also has lots of bars but with less than a dozen customers in most so no atmosphere. Try Popeyes and Rockafella's. The weather was great and playing at the beach was fun but the night life let the place down. The Miami was good value but we were ready to come home before the two weeks was up. PS: Beware the lift at the apartments - they stink!!

Just back from Hotel Miami (04/07/08-11/07/08) . Initial impression was that it looked rather dated and just another ugly concrete beast in the concrete jungle. Having arrived early on the Friday (11:30) we had to wait until 14:30 for a room and felt that although 14:00 was the official entry time, they could have tried a bit harder to accommodate us earlier. Reception was very warm and uncomfortable as the air con obviously was not up to scratch. When we did get our room we thought it rather small and dated, although it was certainly clean enough. The air con in the room was very poor. I would compare it to a battery operated desk fan blowing over an ice cube. Our view was uninspiring also as we overlooked what i presume was the back door of the kitchen and there was a constant clattering of dishes and strange odours. Overall the food was not to bad but i think by the end of the week it was a bit like ground-hog day. We found it best to go for meals early to avoid the cattle charge and down and out rudeness of some guests who obviously have no concept of a Queue. Staff were all pleasant and helpful and spoke good English. The swimming pool is far too small for the amount of guests in the hotel and there is a highly inadequate ammount of sun loungers. You will have to go to the pool doors at 08:00 to stake a claim for a lounger and even then although you may have been first in the queue for one, when the door is opened lots of ignorant pigs push past and run for the loungers in a very undignified and shamefull manner, laughable really. The staff should control this system and ensure that first come ARE first served. Entertainment is fine if you like the corny social club scene, a bit "Phoenix Nights" for our liking. Also beware during afternoon they have a water polo match in one of the small pools which usually results in a fairly hard ball travelling about 100mph usually into the face of a unsuspecting 4 year old or a slumbering sun worshipper much to their pain/injury or annoyance. The resort itself is a bit Blackpool in the sun for us, lots of English themed pubs and shop loads of cheap tat that is not so cheap. Our Holiday was so-so although i doubt we would go back or recommend it to anybody. I think plenty of other people seem to like it though. We will return to Croatia next year as we prefer a bit of local culture and peace and quiet.
