Just returned from Fuengirola on 25th July, 2008 myself and three teenagers, the only thing the Hotel Veramar has going for it is the location (very central) 3 minutes to the beach and promenade and 5 minutes to the centre. The hotel itself was very tired and dated, but nevertheless clean. Maid service seemed to be random and I had to ask at receiption for toilet rolls and rubbish to be collected from our apartment and the fridge didn't seem to keep anything cold no matter how high it was turned up and there were aunts everywhere.
The pool and surrounding area is very small and there are not enough sun beds and the ones that are there are broken. There was no entertainment - this is the first spanish holiday I've ever been on where there was no entertainment.
The town itself is quite large with a long promenade with lots of shops and restaurants, bars, etc. Although they started to clean up at about 6 a.m. Fuengirola was quite dirty and at the smell of sewage never far away. It cost 9 Euro for two sun beds and a parasol on the beach but when we went into the water there was raw sewage floating everywhere - needless to say we stayed by the pool from then on.
If you don't want to stay put and are happy to use the Veramar as a base then it's the place for you, there is plenty to do at night with things only picking up around midnight and carrying on to the wee hours.
There is a train from the Airport costing 1.85 euro which runs down the coast the last stop is Fuengirola so don't be ripped off by transfer companies who wanted to charge us ?40 each!!

Hotel was clean and basic which is exactly what u'd expect for the money. Maid service came round every other day. They offer a breakfast for 5 euros it is as much as u can eat but it tasted pretty terrible! My only other complaint was the bed it was the most uncomfartable bed ever! Overall the hotel is in a good location 5 mins from the beach, 5 mins from town and 10 mins from the train station! I would recomend the hotel if u want a base but not to sit round the pool all day its busy and small. the hotel bar was good as there was no annoying entertainment going on!!
