was at hotel caspel in salou for 3 days in february 2007. the hotel is very clean, rooms well heated. the food unfortunately was not very good. not a lot of choice and not very warm. there were also a group of cyclists on our floor who seemed to spend most of their time going in and out one anothers room and banging doors although in fairness the noise wasnt too bad during the night. if the hotel could improve the food it would be a very pleasant, central and clean place to stay.

My partner and I stayed here on half-board basis for 2 nights break. First impressions, reception, check-in all fine. Arrived around 10am and our room was ready. Corridors (carpet) worn and needed a hoover!!!! Room very basic, but for two nights ok. In need of modernisation. There were no drawers for underwear etc which had we stayed for more than 3-4 nights would not have been acceptable. Rooms were warm so for the time of year was fine. I like plumped-up pillows which we didn't have. Bedding quite worn but overall the rooms were clean. Evening meal - well very limited choice and the food was awful. I only ate the french bread after trying a bit of the food. The walls are very thin and until about 4am I could hear someones TV, to the point I could actually hear what was being said on it. Breakfast - cereal limited but ok then dried-up scrambled egg, sausages etc -- definitely didn't look at all appetizing.Limited choice again so once again only ate the french bread with a piece of cold meat. The hot water to make tea was warm. And someone had left a review saying it was the only hotel they knew to run out of orange juice. Well we would say they had a lucky escape. It tasted disgusting. There was fruit and Yogurts but the fruit looked very dried up so I didn't bother. Evening meal, once again wasn't edible (and I am not a fussy eater). We spoke to a couple on the table next to us who were also very disappointed. One only had to look around at the expressions on peoples faces to see that it was the general impression of everyone. Okay cheap hotel, but we along with the other couple had stayed in other hotels for the same price and couldn't fault anything particularly not the food. Nobody was asked for their room number on entering the restaurant, but then again I wouldn't think anyone off the street would be so hungry just to walk in and help themselves anyway. Another point which was rather un-nerving, instead of the modern cards for getting into ones room, they still run with the key and large block on it with the room number on. When leaving the hotel you are advised to put it in the box in reception. They are then on display so anybody can see who is out of their rooms. Whenever we or anyone come to that, asked for their room key NOT ONCE were we asked our name to confirm it was actually you who was asking for it. It was fairly busy and there were different staff on so it wasn't as though they recognised us or the other people staying there. Not good. Overall and I think it is obvious to say WE would NEVER stay there again or recommend it. There are plenty of other hotels nearby for the same price or if fully booked, pay a little extra for somewhere much better.
