Location

Only 3 km away from the hotel lies the „open-air museum“ Zadar, where the 3.000 year old history of the city can be found in every stone. Just take a stroll through the narrow alleys and discover the many hidden angles of the city. Local people modestly call it "Najlipsi grad na svitu" (the most beautiful city in the world). Even Alfred Hitchcock was enthusiastic about it: apparently he said that sunsets are better here than in California.

I?ve spent a week in March in Falkenstener`s Funimation Club Hotel in Zadar with my 2 kids and my wife. I have choosen the hotel based on my excellent experience at other Funimation hotel in Katschberg (Austrtia). I was very dissapointed with this hotel. There is no reason to call it a family hotel. The hotel has only one indoor pool, the water temp was 27-29 C, not warm enough for kids to stay in longer. The warm whirlpool (outdoor) is in the sauna area. Family hours: 14.00-16.00. After lunch, when the kids are sleeping... Fulkyland, the playground are functioning only in the summer high season. So, there is absolutely nothing for children. The hotel looks like operating for tourist groups of retaired Austrians whom stay there for 2-3 days. (we met some 200+) The room (suite) was OK, but some renovation needed. The food was not bad, but we had beef soup for every day, and there was no children? buffet. All inclusive means beside the restaurant a bar, which is the farest point of the hotel from anywhere else, and open 10.00-18.30. Good for the older Austrians beeing there and playing cards all afternoon. To be fair, the hotel should be much lively and better in the high season, as it is directly on the seaside with its own small private (sandy!) beach, with outdoor pools and slides. I would rather going somewhere else in the low season with kids.

This place was great! It's like a campus with several different hotels on the property. I stayed at Funimation, and thought the rooms were fantastic. The bathrooms had a bathtub and shower; the rooms had a living room, balcony, a queen bed and another room with twin beds. It would be great for singles or couples. The room isn't huge, but it definitely has everything you need. The property is wonderful. It's right on the sea, with several pools and water slides. I was there in the winter, so I could only image how wonderful it would be with beach weather. The Spa is the largest Acupura in the country, and I highly recommend it. The sauna area is free, and it has a sauna, steam room, cabana area, whirlpool and several different temperature wading pools. There's also a work out room. I am usually not a fan of an inclusive meals, but the meals were very good, and there were so many options. Breakfast had several meats, three different kinds of eggs, fruit, cheeses, bread (the bread and cheese are amazing!). Dinner had pizza, pastas, several fish, pork, a salad bar, several vegetables and prepared salads, included beer, wine and soft drinks. Lots to chose from for the meat eater and vegetarian alike. While it is a self-serve buffet, it feels more like a restaurant than a cafeteria. I thought the service was also excellent. The staff spoke English and were very helpful. It is on a bus route to town, and the downtown/old city of Zadar can be done in a day, I hope tone day go back in the summer.
