Just back from a two night weekend break in the emperador hotel. It was a girlie weekend and I must say the hotel lived up to our standards. Its in a good location walking distance really to the puerto del sol and most of the nightlife. The rooftop pool was a big plus with this hotel as the fri we arrived was extremely hot and it was really nice to just lie by the pool and chill out for a couple of hours, however i did find drinks quite expensive here. My only regret was that i did not book another night in this city we had such a great time and hope to go back soon. For any girls looking to do shopping here its fantastic found the best bag shops at unbelievable prices and for nightlife we went to Dubliners which wasnt your typical irish pub plenty of other nationalities drank here also. We just found it had a great atmosphere here. The hotel was comfortable, clean had a lovely bathroom and i would definately return to this hotel.

Initially we were given a room in back end of no-where in the hotel. As a previous guest of the hotel we had been given a room with a view the first time and the quality of this room in comparison was extremely disappointing. There was confusion at first over the fact that I wanted a smoking room so we ended up spending our first night in a twin room with the promise of a double the next day. The following day, thankfully, we were moved to a room at the front - with a balcony and a view!! We were extremely pleased with this as this was one of the reasons we returned to this hotel - along with the pool on the roof!! Love that!! It was 31 degrees celsius at 2am so you can imagine what the days were like. A pool was an essential must have. Last time we were in Madrid we only stayed for a weekend which is no-where near long enough to find your way round this amazing city. The best time for a night out is to go to Sol and find your way round from there. Don't just go into "Irish bars" which supports loud music mainly but try the small bars. There's always so much more character to them. Quieter music so you can have a chat but a great atmosphere and you get to meet some amazing people. If you go in July/August Madrid will be quieter than normal as the Spaniards are on holiday but you can also pick up some amazing bargains - sale time at it's best!!!!

My husband and I stayed at the Emperador hotel for 4 nights in July, and thought it was quite nice. What we liked the most about the hotel was its location.. its great especially for tourists! All the major sightseeing places (the plazas, royal palace, etc) are located within walking distance of the hotel. There is also a tourist information center close by. Metro station right outside the hotel, and since the hotel is located right on Gran Via, there are plenty of shops and restaurants nearby. (we recommend Pizza Marzano right down the road from the hotel) The people at the front desk are not very friendly (except for Aurora.. she is very helpful).. the room was a little small but still clean and comfortable. Bathroom very clean. Noises in the night didn't wake us up, but we weren't facing the main road anyway. Breakfast was included in our package and was ok, no complaints but nothing fantastic either. We were initially a little worried about going out in the night since we heard its not so safe.. but we were out till 1030 without any problem.. beyond that not so sure since we didn't risk it! Overall a nice hotel, clean, centrally located and convenient. Would definitely recommend it.

Basic room but worth it for the pool

Stayed for 4 nights and had a pleasant experience. The room was clean but small and I wouldn't consider it 4* standard. Had a view of a brick wall and as the room was joined to another we could hear voices/TV through the wooden door. Toiletries provided weren't great (would have liked some conditioner!) there is a hairdryer. There is a safe. The room was cleaned each day. However the location was excellent and the swmming pool area was very nice with good views- towels provided. I found the staff helpful. The breakfast was good with a large selection. It cost 22 euro for taxi ride to airport.
